The Lord said: One who is unattached to the fruits of his work and who works as he is obligated is in the renounced order of life, and he is the true mystic, not he who lights no fire and performs no duty. He who does work which he ought to do without seeking its fruits he is samnyasin, he is the yogin, not he who does not light the sacred fire, and perform no rites.

Sanyas is nothing but renunciation. Arjun! you should know that the same is yoga, or linking oneself with the Supreme. It is certain that one can never become a yogi unless he renounces the desire for sense gratification.

Whosoever is aspiring for perfection in Yog, he should work without attachment. The sage who is already elevated in Yoga, tranquillity in meditation is said to be the means.

When one is not engaged in action just for satisfying his bodily organs. A person is said to be elevated in yoga when, having renounced all material desires.

Learning:

  1. Normally, it is considered that if a person is not doing anything and eating only uncooked food, he is Yogi and Sanyasi. As per Gita, it is not correct. According to Gita, a person is Yogi or Sanyasi if he does all his work and perform all the duties assigned to him without depending on the fruits of the actions.
  2. Yoga is started with the sole purpose of performing the duties assigned without worrying for the results.
  3. When one becomes the perfect yogi, he performs his duties with the objective in his mind to attain eternal peace
  4. Yogis are unattached with the sensual desires and always renounce the task to fulfil his own materialistic desires
